The special air quality statement that was issued last night for Airdrie and the surrounding areas has ended.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a special air quality statement yesterday because of wildfire smoke coming from northeastern British Columbia.

Residents were advised to stop or reduce their activity level if breathing was uncomfortable. Airdronians were also advised to drink lots of water, which can help one's body cope with the smoke.

According to Climate Change Canada, the statement was in effect for:

  • Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden
  • Rocky View Co. near Cochrane
  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
  • Mountain View Co. near Sundre

According to IQAir, PM2.5 concentration in Airdrie is currently 2.1 times the WHO annual air quality guideline value.
