Calgary police confirmed that a 15-year-old male passenger died on the scene as a result of a collision that shut down a portion of Stoney Trail for several hours on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, excessive speed is being investigated as a factor in this collision.

"At approximately 4:30 p.m., on Saturday, a silver Infiniti G37 that was travelling on southbound Stoney Trail, approaching McKnight Boulevard N.E., lost control," police stated.

The vehicle travelled across the median and struck a light post, before coming to a rest on the northbound lanes of Stoney Trail.

"One passenger, a 15-year-old male, was ejected from the vehicle and was declared deceased on scene."

The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital in serious condition. Three additional passengers were also transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident.
