The four Airdrie athletes who competed at the Canada Summer Games that wrapped up yesterday (August 13) in Winnipeg made the city proud.

They brought home a total of three medals, two silver and a bronze, from the games.

18 year old soccer player Sam Gagne won one of the silvers when Team Alberta lost a heartbreaking 1 - 0 game at the hands of Ontario.

The Ontario men's volleyball team also got the better of 18 year old Ryan Zachary of Airdrie and Team Alberta who had to settle for a silver medal after losing a five set match in the final.

In week one of the games, 16 year old Ayden Makarus claimed a bronze medal with the Team Alberta baseball squad.  This time, Alberta prevailed over Ontario, winning by a score of 5 - 1 in the bronze medal final.

The fourth member of the Airdrie contingent at the games was 15 year old para-swimmer Alex Sharpe who was busy in the pool.  Although Sharpe couldn't climb atop a medal podium, he competed against older swimmers and still accounted well for himself.

The Airdrie medals were part of the Alberta haul of 97, including 26 gold, 38 silver and 33 bronze, good for a fourth place finish.
