It took them four meetings in the Heritage Junior Hockey League but the Stettler Lightning finally got the Airdrie Thunder's number.

Last night (January 20) the Lightning built up a 5 - 2 lead after 40 minutes then hung on to score a 5 - 4 win over the Thunder for their first victory of the season over Airdrie.

Dante Raposo and Clay Murray each scored twice for Airdrie, while Rylan Plante-Crough added three assists.

Not only did the Thunder lose the game, they also lost ground to the Red Deer Vipers whom they're battling for first place in the HJHL Northern Division who dumped the Mountainview Colts 3 - 1 last night.

The combination of Airdrie losing and Red Deer winning means the Vipers are now four points ahead of the Thunder as the two teams get ready for an important clash tonight in Red Deer.

Also on tonight's schedule, the Colts are at home in the Didsbury Recreation Complex for an 8:00 pm encounter against the Lightning.
