Rocky View Schools (RVS) have opened registration for online school for 2021-2022.

We should say RVS has opened registration for two online schools that are being created in the division next year to replace the current online learning option.  One of the schools is for grade one to nine students, the other is for grade 10 to 12.

RVS Superintendent Greg Luterbach said in a letter to parents and guardians explaining the new programs that the schools will introduce some changes to improve students' virtual learning experience.   He thanked the over 1,100 families, students and staff currently in RVS online learning for providing feedback that helped the division shape the future of the programs.

Luterbach says both of the new schools will be unique and be just like face-to-face schools in that each will have their own principals, staff, teachers and supports for students.  Both students and staff of the schools will not be connected to any existing RVS school but will focus on bringing students, staff and, when possible, families together in an effort to build a school culture and community.

Families can now register for the new online schools through SchoolEngage on the RVS website.  Registration will close at 5:00 pm, May 31st.  Luterbach says RVS needs time to plan and prepare in order to give students the best start to the new online experience so registrations will not be accepted after May 31st nor can any changes be made to an in-person school after that date.  Registering for online school is a full school-year commitment for 2021-2022 and resources will be allocated to schools based on the number of students who are registered by May 31st.

More information about what to expect from the new online schools can be found on the RVS website from the RVS Online School Parent Information document
