Despite all the talk of the 'vote anywhere' ballots possibly affecting the outcome of ten different races after Tuesday night's (April 16) Alberta election, in the end, all they did was confirm a massive blue wave swept over the province in the form of Jason Kenney's UCP party.

Kenney and his party remain with the 63 seats they had on election night with Rachel Notley and the NDP the only opposition with 24 seats.

The two closest races in the province remained with the same results with one of them going to the UCP and one to the NDP.  In the province's tightest battle in Calgary Falconridge, the UCP's Devinder Toor beat Parmeet Singh of the NDP by just 102 votes.

Shannon Phillips, Environment Minister in the Notley government, held onto her Lethbridge West seat by nosing out Karri Flata of the UCP by only 225 votes.

In Airdrie East and Airdrie-Cochrane, all 84 and 97 polls respectively have been counted and they tell a tale of huge UCP victories in each case,

Angela Pitt tallied 16,767 votes, defeating her closest rival in Airdrie East, the NDP's Roxie Baez Zamora, by 11,768 votes.

Peter Guthrie's margin in Airdrie-Cochrane was nearly as large.  He beat Steve Durrell of the NDP, 18,851 votes to 7,195.

1,880,508 voters marked their X on ballots across the province.  There were 2,643,453 registered votes making the unofficial voter turnout in the province  71.1 percent, the largest in years. Almost 223,000 'vote anywhere' ballots were cast.

The results won't become officials until April 26th.
