It appears one of Canada's largest telecom companies has listened to the concerns of Airdronians.

Telus recently announced it's investing $9 million this year for wireless infrastructure and internet access in the city.

"Telus is proud to make this generational investment in Airdrie, providing the technology to connect citizens to loved ones, as well as vital resources and information as we continue to navigate the global pandemic," said President and CEO, Darren Entwistle.

"Now more than ever, Telus is committed to keeping our citizens and communities connected and productive through our globally leading wireless network, underpinned by our award winning Telus PureFibre infrastructure that provides the backbone for our 5G-enabled world."

The announcement comes days after a Facebook group was launched highlighting the frustration of many residents in southwest Airdrie who constantly deal with poor cell service.

e in Airdrie and across Alberta through the pandemic, Telus has also partnered with local charities including the Airdrie BGC. "TELUS volunteers have created many incredible memories for our members over the years," said Executive Director, Denisa Sanness.

"Everything from helping with painting, gardening, building a stage for youth to perform and creating an outdoor play structure for our members to enjoy."

No exact date has been given yet as to when these infrastructure upgrades will take place in Airdrie.
