Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit, EMS, and Crossfield Fire crews were dispatched to a serious single vehicle collision on Highway 2 North of Crossfield on Tuesday, July 26.

The southbound lanes of Highway 2 were closed down once crews arrived and dispatched for STARS Air Ambulance.

"On arrival, we found a 66-year-old male who was operating the motorcycle. He lost control, entered the centre median and struck the cable barrier. His injuries were significant enough that EMS had launched STARS Air Ambulance. We closed down the highway to allow STARS to have a landing zone," said Cst. Matt Gervais.

Traffic was re-routed for approximately half an hour to allow STARS Air Ambulance to land and load the male, who was in serious but stable condition.

"Once they had left the scene, we opened up one of the lanes there to allow traffic to free flow."

Investigators were on scene for approximately an hour afterwards to investigate the cause of the incident.

The cause is still unknown at this time and the highway has since been reopened.
