They were scheduled to announce their decision on the future of the Prince Of Peace Lutheran School just east of Calgary today, but Rocky View School Board trustees put off making that decision at the start of today's (February 7) meeting.

The board has been debating the future viability of the school since the landlord, Sage Properties has been trying to sell the land and building after the current lease ends at the end of the school year.  Rocky View Schools had said that, based on the current price and evaluation, they wouldn't likely be able to purchase it.  The Alberta government also said that it had no budget to buy the school which made closure the most likely possibility.

Several parents and stakeholders of the school were at today's meeting to hear what decision the school board had come up with.  However,  Chair Todd Brand announced to the gathered group that just 24 hours before the meeting, Sage Properties had submitted a new lease to the division for their consideration.  Brand said the board didn't feel a day was enough time to make such a significant decision so they've put it off for another month while they look at the new, proposed lease.

Now the board has set it's March 7th meeting as decision day.

Brand said a note with more information would be emailed to parents at the school within the next few days.

Nearly 470 students are currently attending Prince of Peace School.
