A Kindergarten class in Cochrane had a very unique experience as they attempted to break down the makeup of what makes a hero.

The class spent some time identifying what characteristics and traits make up the anatomy of a hero.

Angela Vriend, Teacher of the class says there were many ideas.

"I started with the kids by having them describe the different characteristics of heroes such as being fast, putting away bad guys and other traits. The kids started to realize that there were everyday heroes out in our community."

Then many members and parents in the community came into the classroom to present what they do for work and to inspire the children in the class.

Vriend says this small exercise stuck with the children and inspired them to be a hero in their community.

"So we talked about how we can be heroes ourselves and how we can help and serve others, so over the summer one girl spent her time picking up garbage at a local park and sent me pictures of that saying look we are being heroes for the environment. I heard many stories from the children about how they acted as a hero over the summer and how the exercise really resonated with them."

Vriend says the results of the exercise was more than she could have ever expected.

"I am so incredibly proud of those kids, they were able to connect with the presenters and ideas and then to be able to take those lessons out into the community and utilize them!"
