The new Airdrie City Council held a short and very agreeable organizational meeting yesterday (October 30).

The new group voted unanimously on every item on their agenda.

Council reviewed the Elected Officials Code of Conduct, how the Deputy Mayor's position is filled, endorsed the Council Remuneration Policy, established the 2018 Council Meeting Schedule and Council Calendar, endorsed the Signing Authorities Policy, and was provided with information on the appointment of citizens to Council's Boards, Committees and Commissions.

About the only change made during the meeting was on the Deputy Mayor front. Council decided to appoint Deputy Mayors to four month rotations from the present eight months. That way, Councillors will each serve in the position twice during their four year term in office.

The new council was also advised that citizen appointments to their Boards would be delayed until the November 20th meeting because of the timing of the election.

Typically, council makes these appointments at the annual Organizational Meeting. While Councillor terms run from Organizational Meeting to Organizational Meeting, citizen terms run from January 1st – December 31st.  The additional time will allow for council to interview potential appointees.

In an In Camera meeting before the Organizational Meeting, the council members who'll serve on the various city committees were appointed.
