Mayor Peter Brown addressed a sold out crowd on Wednesday, June 15, at the State of the City Address at the Woodside Golf Course.

Brown shared his excitement over the direction of the City and also spoke about current and upcoming projects that will take place this year.

The city has recently put in street lights on 8th Street and Windsong Drive and plans are in place to add more between Yankee Valley and Hillcrest Way.

Brown said that the Province has promised to complete construction on the 2nd exit lane from the QEII to Yankee Valley Blvd, but he hasn't seen any workers or pylons set up out there yet.

Two of the areas Brown focused on was the 24 hour Health Park and the city's 10 year Economic Development Plan.

"We can have the city where you don't drive somewhere to go to work, you stay here and go to work," said Brown who is excited at the prospect of building new business opportunities.

The 24 hour Health Park was introduced to the legislature and talks continue to help make the project a reality.

"We have a meeting next week and we're looking forward to getting more detail, and you know I think as we move forward that there will be some very significant announcements in the next little while."

Mayor Brown also said the Library is very close to announcing their new location; he shared how proud he was that $22 million has been saved over the years for the project so there will be no additional cost to the public.

During the question and answer period, Mayor Brown was asked about post secondary institutes opening up small campuses within the city, he said that there are a couple of schools that are interested and that he hopes to make an announcement soon.
