Airdrie and area Thanksgiving travellers' flights were very delayed or cancelled as a result of the weather Saturday.

The heavy fog and low visibility made it very dangerous for planes to take off or land at YYC. Many incoming flights were diverted to Edmonton, forcing connections and new departures to be cancelled.

Tracy Lamoureux was headed to Ottawa to spend Thanksgiving with her family when her flight was delayed for over four hours.

"I was supposed to take off at 6:00 p.m. and we eventually took off at 10:30 p.m. and landed [in Ottawa] at 4:30 in the morning."

Hundreds were stranded and will unfortunately be very late or have to miss Thanksgiving meals with families.

"There were some people who were visibly shaken cause they're trying to get home for a little holiday break and they were pretty upset their flights were cancelled. Getting home when we have that little bit of extra time off to visit is really important to people."

Road conditions also played a roll as many employees of the airport were unable to make it to work, leaving the facility under staffed.
