The United Conservative Party will get the support of the new Premier of Ontario at a Scrap the Carbon Tax Rally tonight (October 5) in Calgary.

Doug Ford will join Jason Kenney and other members of the UCP, including Airdrie MLA Angela Pitt at the rally starting at 7:00 pm at the BMO Centre in Calgary.  Pitt says Ford may be a polarizing figure in his own province but is definitely an ally for the UCP in their efforts to get the federal Liberal government to stop plans for the tax.

"We come together on this issue of fighting the carbon tax.  It's great to have an ally in this fight and Premier Doug Ford is certainly that."

But Pitt says Ford isn't the only ally that the UCP has in the battle to put an end to the tax.   "I think what we're seeing with many premiers across the country, certainly with Premier Ford and with the Premier of Manitoba is that they're signing on board.  I suspect we'll see the Premier of Quebec as well stand up and fight this job-killing carbon tax."

She says that should the UCP form the next government in Alberta, they plan to take the federal government to court if it tries to force the tax on Albertans.    "It is not proper for the federal government to impose this on us and we will take them to court and we will have a good case and we will work with other provinces across the country, which are starting to become the majority, and we will fight this."

Pitt says one of the main problems with the tax is that it doesn't address the issue of climate change in any way.  "The carbon tax does absolutely nothing to combat the effects of climate change.  It's just a tax that punishes everyday Albertans."

Alberta, says Pitt, has a wonderful story to tell about our energy and she hopes people will be there to hear it during tonight's rally.

"Alberta is leading the way when it comes to producing our energy products in the cleanest way possible, not only that but in the most ethical way possible.  We should be extremely proud of the way we produce energy in our province.  Not only that, we should be sharing it with other countries and other jurisdictions because we know how to do it best."
