The Airdrie Fire Department had to act quickly to contain a fire from a household dryer on Tuesday afternoon (September 12th).

Deputy Fire Chief Garth Rabel explained what happened.

"Crews responded at about 12:56 in the afternoon to the report of a structure fire, smoke in the building on Kingsland Way South East. When they arrived they did find light smoke showing on the top level of the two story home and heavier, darker smoke in the lower level, the basement level right around the laundry room."

Rabel said the fire was started as a result of a bearing in the dryer that overheated, eventually igniting clothes and lint from the trapper.

Airdrie Fire said this incident is a reminder that you should take care of all household appliances.

"All of our household appliances deserve ongoing and regular service and care just to ensure they function properly and safely throughout the year."

Thankfully the residents of the home were evacuated and no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
