Could the City of Airdrie be the home for the new arena for the Calgary Flames?

Earlier this week the Calgary Flames announced that they will no longer be pursuing a new arena deal with the City of Calgary.

Mayor Peter Brown said he recently tweeted the Flames owner, Ken King, saying before he considers leaving the city, he should look at Airdrie.

Mayor Brown sent this tweet to Calgary Flames owner Ken King.

As of September 14th, the tweet was liked 19 times and retweeted 9 times.

According to Mayor Brown, while it might not be a possibility, he would still love to have the conversation with the team.

"There's nothing wrong with being 10 minutes north of the airport in Airdrie, and we provide some land, as long as there is accessibility and we can accommodate that many people it would be great for our economic development and great for our community."

Mayor Brown says it's unlikely the team would leave the City of Calgary, but says it would be neat to have Airdrie as a possible future.
