A recall warning has been issued for several sandwiches and chicken salads from Sobeys stores because of possible Listeria contamination.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued the recall Wednesday. The CFIA says the issue is with diced chicken that was used in the products.

The sandwiches and salads were sold in Sobeys, Safeway and IGA stores in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

Consumers are advised to call their doctor if they think they became ill after eating one of the products. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms include; vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.

The CFIA says the diced chicken is associated with an ongoing investigation.

“Imported diced chicken used in these products has been associated with an outbreak investigation, however, at this time, there have been no confirmed illnesses associated with the products identified in this Food Recall Warning,” said the CFIA in a statement.

Check to see if you have the recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
