Candidates hoping to run in the Alberta Provincial Election have until March 29th to register with Elections Alberta.

As of noon on Tuesday, March 26, there were only three candidates officially registered for the riding of Airdrie East.

Those candidates include incumbent and United Conservative Party candidate Angela Pitt, Alberta Party candidate Alex Luterbach, and a newly added Liberal candidate Stephen Brazil.

The Freedom Conservative Party candidate Rick Northey and the NDP candidate Roxie Baex Zamora are not on the list yet, but have until Friday to submit their nomination papers.

Deputy chief electoral officer Drew Westwater said candidates can't do any fundraising until they are on the official list.

“The can’t spend any money or raise any money on their campaign until they register as a candidate with our office,” “They must do that before they can legally spend or raise any money.”

In the riding of Airdrie-Cochrane NDP candidate Steve Durrell, UCP candidate Peter Guthrie and FCP candidate Matthew Morrisey have all registered with Elections Alberta.

Vern Raincock was recently announced as the Alberta party candidate for that riding, his campaign still needs to submit the required registration paperwork.

“As soon as they’ve filed in the office and they are accepted as a candidate we post them up on our website,” said Westwater.

The deadline to register is 2:00 P.M. on Friday. Candidates who fail to register on time will not appear on the ballot.
