Canada Day is fast approaching, and along with all the fun comes the need for volunteers.

The Airdrie Parades and Fireworks Volunteer Committee (in partnership with Volunteer Airdrie), are looking to fill over 120 volunteer roles throughout the day of festivities.

Dave Maffitt, Chair of Volunteer Airdrie, said the parade route requires just over 50 volunteers, while the afternoons events at Chinook Winds needs over 60 volunteers.

"There's plenty of volunteer opportunities in the afternoon at Chinook Winds. We need barricade attendants, clean up crew, booth attendant, and collecting donations."

Maffitt said that currently they have 15 volunteers signed up for the parade route but they still require around 40 more.

The parade draws in over 20,000 in attendance each year, with over 10,000 people participating in the activities set up a Chinook Winds, which means the events need a lot of bodies to help direct the crowd.

A benefit of becoming a volunteer, said Maffitt, is that you get a free pancake breakfast at George Mac High School before the parade, as well as a free t-shirt and an appreciation gift bag.
