A yearling female wolf that was part of the Bow Valley Wolf pack has been euthanized after she became too bold and aggressive with her quest to find food in campgrounds.

Despite environment officers' best efforts to deter her and adversely condition her, the wolf repeatedly returned to the campground.

Greg Danchuk, visitor experience manager with Banff National Park, said she displayed the behaviour for several days.

"It's behaviour continued to increase and her boldness towards wherever people were in the campground and where her potential food sources were."

Officers monitored the wolf for several days before the decision to euthanize her became official.

Danchuk added the main reason was due to campers giving the wolf an easily accessible source of food.

"Once the summer started with campers and the repeated access, which became the norm for her, and she stayed around the campsites."

Campers are reminded to clean up after themselves, including disposing garbage, and ensuring there is nothing left behind for wild animals to eat.

In July, over 20 charges were laid against people who kept a campsite unclean and therefore attracted wildlife.

Patrols have increased and those who fail to clean up after themselves can be fined up to $25,000.
