Adoption centers across the province have trouble finding homes for black cats.

Much of the trouble stems from the age old superstition that cats are a sign of bad luck or evil.

"I had one lady that came in and she saw a black cat and she freaked," said Edna Jackson, owner and manager of Tails to Tell. "She could not be in the same room, in fact she didn't even stay in the building, she went completely outside."

The superstition dates back to medieval times when black cats were thought to be companions of witches. To this day, certain adoption centers do not allow for the adoption of black cats in the month of October, due to fear of Halloween related cruelty.

"Most of the black cats we have are sweethearts, we've probably got way more black cats than we have any other colour," said Jackson.

Jackson adds that long-haired black cats have the most trouble finding a home, due to the nature of their shedding.

For those looking to adopt a cat, Tails to Tell encourages you to come to their location at 1017B Hammond Avenue in Crossfield.
