The City of Airdrie Parks Department is getting ready to open the second phase of the Chinook Winds Spray Park.

Alberta Health is still required to sign off before the City can open the park up to the public but the goal is to have everything up and running by Sunday, June 12.

The expansion began at the end of last season, adding new concrete, putting in underground infrastructure, adding new filters, and increasing the the tank size with an additional underground tank.

Crews added rubber and fall surfacing this year, and have recently completed the commissioning.

The spray park has 3 new pieces that cater to each age group. A water table has been added for young children, a discovery water stream that looks like a snake for kids aged 2-5, and for kids 5-12, there is an activity centre that includes water guns, dump buckets and 4 slides.

Carly Johnson, Parks Development Technician said that even though the spray park is not currently open, there are still tons of activities available at Chinook Winds.

"We have 8 ball diamonds there, a hockey rink which is a multi-use court that is used as basket ball in the summer that has solar lights around it so you can use it at night as well. There is a skate park, there is a concession that is open now, it's just open during the summer months, and there is beach volleyball and a regular playground."
