A photo of a 2 and a half year old Airdrie boy has created a lot of buzz on Facebook.

Cindy O'Hara, the young boys mother, posted a photo of her young son posing with a BB gun at a family acreage.

O'Hara, interested in the feedback that the photo would create, used it as an opportunity to open up a dialogue with other moms in the community.

"I am definitely a debate kind of person so I was looking to see what other moms say because I am on quite a few different Facebook groups."

There have been many comments posted with both positive anD negative remarks, but O'Hara said she took every response in stride as she believes every parent is entitled to their opinion.

Some of the parents posting positive comments also included photo's of their own children shooting guns on their property.

The photo was taken using a BB gun that was inoperable.  Prior to the photo being taken, the young boy had received safety training on how to safely handle the weapon.

"There were five or six adults out there, so we taught him proper stance, how to hold it, and how to store it and put it away."

O'Hara said that her son understands that guns are dangerous and that he is not supposed to point them at people but she also said that at his age he does not full comprehend the ramifications of what could happen if a gun is mishandled.

With the family's interest in gun safety, O'Hara said her entire family will be going to a proper gun range for training.
