The Airdrie Thunder learned the hard way last night (March 10) not to take penalties against the Red Deer Vipers.

The Vipers connected five times on seven powerplay chances to pull out a 6 – 4 win over the Thunder and move ahead two games to one in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Northern Division final.

The game in Red Deer was the third consecutive 6 – 4 score in the series and all three games have been won by the home team.

That should mean, if you’re predicting the outcome of Monday night’s fourth game in the Ron Ebbesen Arena in Airdrie, a good guess might be 6 – 4 for the Thunder.

Matt Thomson, Jesse Fischer, Dante Raposo, and Dylan Wenzel scored goals for the Thunder who were up 3 – 1 early in the third before the floodgates opened for Red Deer.

The Vipers scored five times in the third, four of them with a man advantage. Red Deer's final goal was into an empty net with two seconds left in the game.

Monday night’s game gets underway at 7:30 pm.
