Next month, the Airdrie and District Soccer Association will dedicate an entire day to celebrating the sport.

Airdrie FC Day will be held on September 8th at Monklands Park and Jessica Hamilton who serves on the board explains why they decided to have this day.

“Soccer is such a global sport and something that’s becoming more and more popular. We just wanted to reach out to the community, show them a little bit about what Airdrie FC is and how they can be involved and be a part of it.”

Hamilton grew up in Airdrie and was one of the first girls to play on an all-girls soccer team in the city and knows how important the sport is to local kids.

On top of that, she says part of the day will be to encourage soccer as a lifelong sport.

“Keeping fit and active and just having fun. That’s really something that we hope the Airdrie FC Day will promote.”

Although details of the day are still being worked out, there will be different activities along with the unveiling of the Airdrie FC Mascot.

There will also be a chance to meet with those who help work with the Airdrie FC teams.

“It’s an opportunity to meet some of our coaches and some of the players of the club and hopefully, if the schedules go well, maybe catch one of our Airdrie FC teams in action.”
