The Alberta Winter Games kick off this weekend and one young Airdronian is all set to make the three hour drive to compete in Medicine Hat.

Emma Lees is fourteen years old and has been participating in competitive gymnastics since she was eight years old and trains out of the Altadore Gymnastics Club in Calgary.

Lees will be competing in level seven of the Junior Olympic program and is just looking to have fun and not worry so much about the competition in Medicine Hat.

"I get to do what I love and I just really love the sport, it goes the way it goes and you have to perform the best you can."

Lees was also quick to mention her confidence in competing at the highest provincial level saying, "I'm very confident, I think I'll do well."

She trains sixteen hours a week and attends junior high at Ecole Francophone d'Airdrie and also realizes the work of her parents who drive her to gymnastics in Calgary four times a week.

Lees hopes to reach to National level in the future.

The competition begins at 2:00pm this Sunday in the J07 division for the Alberta Winter Games.
