The Airdrie Xtreme played their first of two midweek road games last night (January 9), suffering a loss to the Red Deer Rebels.

The Rebels came out strong against the Xtreme, netting their first goal 26 seconds into the first period, and their second only eleven seconds later.

Down two goals after the first intermission, Airdrie's Brett Moravec scored a powerplay goal 29 seconds into the second period with help from Keagan Slaney and Tristan Zandee. The Xtreme were unable to find the tying goal through the rest of the game, and in the end lost to the Rebels 2-1.

Xtreme goalie Freddie Halyk was named the Third Star of the game. Despite the two early goals, Halyk remained solid for the rest of the game, making 28 saves.

The Xtreme will look to redeem themselves tonight when they face the Calgary Northstar Sabres. That game gets underway at 7:00pm at the Don Hartmen North East Sportsplex.
