An impressive professional athlete is making a boxing gym in Cochrane his new home.

Jesse Arnett will instruct Jiu Jitsu and MMA at Rival Boxing Gym.

Arnett is a National Team Wrestler and Olympic alternate, among other things.

Craig Wilson, owner of Rival Boxing Gym in Cochrane, says he's one of the best fighters in the world.

"He's ranked #2 in Canada, #25 in the world at the moment in MMA professional fighting. He's on an 8-fight win streak. There's talk that he's the next one to go to the UFC, he's the bantam weight champion in Hard Knocks right now."

Wilson explains that Arnett went to the gym, which is where he used to fight out of, and from there they started talking and formed a relationship.

He hopes Arnett will add a new twist and variety to the gym.

"At the moment, we've got 150 members who do everything from the basics, to competitive, to group fitness. We just wanted to add a different aspect of combat sports. 80 per cent of our members have no interest in being a fighter; it's more about the fun. Ju Jistu, kickboxing, and the wrestling aspect is just something else we can offer."

Wilson says it's all about making competitive and non-competitive fighters the best they can be.

"We've always said, 'if you want to be the best, you have to have the best to train.'"

Arnett will begin classes starting July 21 at Rival Boxing Gym, and all skill levels and abilities are welcome to join.
