We have a new leader of the UCP in Alberta. Danielle Smith won the majority vote at the UCP leadership election last night and Airdrie East MLA Angela Pitt (who endorsed Smith) is ecstatic to start working with her,

"I am so thrilled with the results of the UCP leadership race last night and I am so excited for the future of Alberta with Premier Smith at the helm."

Pitt stated she feels like there is so much hope and optimism as we see this new shift of leadership in the province.

"Danielle held nothing back last night in her speech. In terms of standing up for Alberta, she put Ottawa on notice that it is time to start treating Alberta fairly. I think that she's the premier to carry forward with that fight. And of course, grow the economy and help to create a prosperous place for Alberta families."

The new premier will make announcements about her cabinet in the coming weeks, Pitt says as for her role, she just hopes to continue to be able to serve them in whatever capacity that looks like.

When it comes to Airdrie's mainstream issues Pitt and Smith have had talks about Airdrie's healthcare system.

"Premier Smith said last night, that in particular, the EMS crisis was one that she was going to actually put a fix to. So I think this is really positive for the people of Airdrie and of course having a real solid plan that we can have open and transparent to the public on what a new facility for Airdrie might look like, is just great news."

Pitt finished off by saying she is looking forward to an environment of mutual respect and making Alberta the best place to be in the world.
