Hundreds of workers at a meat-processing plant outside Airdrie are getting ready to receive their COVID-19 shots.

A spokesperson for Harmony Beef in Rocky View County confirmed in a statement that employees will be vaccinated beginning Thursday.

"The leadership demonstrated by Alberta Health Services and the Alberta government to protect essential workers has been exemplary," the statement reads. "The vaccinations will take place at our plant and this is an exciting development for our company and industry."

Last month, AHS confirmed plans to provide on-site COVID-19 vaccines for employees at different meatpacking facilities including Harmony Beef and the Cargill plant near High River, as part of Phase 2C of the vaccine rollout.

Since the start of the pandemic, three outbreaks were reported at Harmony Beef with the last one in October.
