A fatal head-on collision shut down Deerfoot Trail in both directions Friday morning between 32nd and 16th Avenue.

The investigation has been completed and the road is now open in both directions. Northbound lanes were opened around 7 am while southbound lanes remained closed until around 10:30 am, causing major delays during the morning commute.

According to police, the driver of the car, a man in his twenties, was declared dead on scene, and the driver of the truck was not injured and remains in police custody, yet no charges have been laid at this moment.
