Over $60,000 from the province will make its way to two Airdrie organizations as part of the province's Community Initiatives Program.

Binam of Calgary - Bamileke Association whose location is listed in Airdrie, will receive $60,000 for the 2023/2024 fiscal year through the Community Initiatives Program operating-based grant; while Association Zone Franco d'Airdrie will receive over $2,000 for hosting costs associated with the Airdrie Francophone Celebration 2023.

"This support will help nonprofit organizations strengthen their ability to provide more programs and services that benefit and improve the lives of Albertans across our great province," Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women said.

In total, 9.9 million dollars was awarded by the province to 260 non-profit organizations.

According to the province, project-based funding through the program can support initiatives such as new programming and events, commercial vehicle purchases, website development, technology enhancements and marketing. Operating grants through the program support non-profits working to deliver services to vulnerable and disadvantaged Albertans.

"Projects must address an immediate community-identified need and demonstrate broad community involvement and impact."

The funding towards Airdrie non-profits is significantly lower than in 2022/2023, when Airdrie organizations saw over $1.5 million in funding, including one million dollars previously given to the Airdrie Curling Club, and $75,000 being awarded to the North Rocky View Community Links Society.

According to the Government of Alberta's database on previous grant recipients in Airdrie, 2023/2024's total amount of money granted is the second lowest dollar amount since 2001/2002.

Cochrane received over $100,000 in funding, with the largest grant going towards the International Centre for Development Learning Society, which received $75,000.
