A 65-year-old man from Calgary is dead after a non-motorized glider aircraft crashed south of Calgary earlier this afternoon.

According to Mounties, police received a 9-1-1 call at 1:30 on Wednesday that the aircraft had crashed in a field south of Highway 7 and 112 Street west of Foothills County near Diamond Valley.

"RCMP, EMS and Fire attended and found the glider aircraft and pilot."

The man, who was the single occupant of the glider was declared deceased at the scene.

Calgary, AB, was declared deceased at the scene.

"Condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," police stated in a brief release.
