The Airdrie Thunder played a strong two way game last night (December 8) to pick up an important win in the Heritage Junior Hockey League.

The Thunder got goals from five different players and downed the Blackfalds Wranglers 5 - 1 at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

Benjamin Orde, Michael Dubois, Jesse Fischer, Rylan Plante-Crough and Matt Thomson were the Thunder goal scorers.  Clay Murray had a pair of assists for Airdrie and was named the game's offensive star.

At the other end of the ice, Thunder goaltender Ryan Simpson's performance earned him the defensive star of the night.

The Wranglers fired 45 shots at Simpson but could only beat him the one time.

The game was a physical, and sometimes chippy one with two 10 minute misconducts and three game misconducts being assessed.

The victory solidifies Airdrie's hold on first place in the league's Northern Division.  The Thunder are three points up on idle Red Deer and six ahead of Blackfalds.

It was the only game this weekend for the Thunder.

In Three Hills, the Thrashers couldn't manage to build on their first win this season on Wednesday over Mountainview.  The Cochrane Generals came into the Centennial Arena and handed Three Hills an 8 - 3 setback.

Slater Ransom and Talus Hume each had five point nights for the Generals, Ransom scoring three times and Hume twice.

Tonight the Generals turn their attention to Strathmore and an 8:00 pm game against the Wheatland Kings.

The Mountainview Colts are at home in the Didsbury Rec Complex where they'll face the Ponoka Stampeders in another 8:00 pm start.
