After one of the coldest February's Airdrie has ever experienced, spring is finally here.

Meteorologist Kyle Fougere from Environment Canada says that technically speaking the meteorological spring starts now.

"Meteorological spring is here, we define that as starting at the start of March."

Fougere then goes on to say that we may still be in the cold for a bit though.

"We're not quite done with the cold weather yet. This first week of March is expected to be below normal, but after that, we do expect temperatures to warm up to more normal conditions for this time of year."

But don't put your shovels away just yet. Fougere continued to talk about how the months of March and April are still the top two snowiest months of the year.

"March tends to be pretty snowy in the Airdrie, Calgary area, we tend to get 21.4cm of snow on average which makes it the snowiest month of the year on average, and April is actually the second snowiest. So when you get into the spring you still tend to see the snow and you can get big snowfalls, they tend to be heavier wet snows, but they don't stick around for quite as long."
