The Special Olympics softball teams are well into their Spring/Summer season with multiple games and a tournament under their belt.

The intermediate team, which is new this year, played team Buzz on Wednesday June 8, putting up a good show and demonstrating great team spirit.

This novice team has been working on their skills with 22 players stepping up to bat, preparing for a game against the Staff at Air 106.1.

The big game coming up this week, is on Wednesday, June 22, with the Intermediate Special Olympics team playing against the High School Leadership Football team at W.H. Croxford.

"They're always up for the challenge of taking on different teams," said Sue Farkas-Fillatre, Special Olympics Airdrie Media-Relations. "With this particular game I am taking two sets of athletes and completely putting them out of their element. With our Special Olympics team, they've never played a group of high school students before so this will be something totally different for them."

Farkas said the intermediate team is made up of a wide age group of players but feels it is a good mix against the high school students.

"The ultimate goal is just to play hard, to get better at their sport and you know what, what better way to just kind of mix things up a little bit."

Each team will line the bases at Meadowbrook Middle School at 6:40 pm.
