Sunday saw the return of the "Know Where to Turn Run" back in Airdrie.

The run/walk fundraised for North Rocky View Community Links so they can provide programs and support for those dealing with family violence.

This initiative to end family violence was started in 2017 as a result of community collaboration in Airdrie, to raise much-needed cash and provide free services and assistance to adults and children who are victims of domestic abuse.

Event organizers continue to honour the memory of Airdrie’s Andrea Conroy, who was taken from her children, family, and community in an act of domestic violence on February 21, 2012, at the age of 33 with the five-kilometre run called "Andrea's 5K Run".  There was also a 10k run/walk, a 2k kids race and a half marathon.

Elizabeth Wyczynski, the Community Relations Specialist at Community Links is very proud of how this year's event went.

"It exceeded our expectations. We decided last year that we wanted to make it bigger, more community involvement this year and we saw around 80 more Airdronians partaking in the event bringing the total to around 240."

While the final numbers are not official as of yet, Wyczynski does hope that Community Links will see around $25,000 fundraised.

"That will play a role in covering some of our expenses until next year, and it will definitely help us keep supporting the community."

The event will be back bigger and better next year, they hope to keep growing each year. A date is yet to be confirmed.

"This year showed us that it can be bigger we can make Airdrie a race community. We hope to attract more people, more vendors, more sponsors, and help with the great cause."

Wyczynski finished off by thanking everybody who took part in the event and made it possible.
