Meteorologists at Environment Canada were monitoring an area of severe thunderstorms that brought strong wind gusts, hail ranging from nickel to ping-pong ball size, and heavy rain. The storms have now passed.

One severe thunderstorm was 15 km northwest of Cochrane, while another was 20 km northwest of Airdrie.

Both storms were moving southeast at 20 km/h and had the potential to produce tornadoes.

If you see threatening weather, take cover immediately. Lightning is a serious threat, causing injuries and fatalities each year in Canada.
