Monday morning, Airdrie RCMP were in hot pursuit of a stolen car being driven by a man thought to be impaired. The vehicle, believed stolen from Edmonton, was travelling at a high rate of speed on the QE-2 southbound from the Innisfail area.

Cpl. Darrin Turnbull of the Airdrie RCMP says police tried in vain to pull the driver over and abandoned the chase in the interest of public safety. Continuing at high speed, the suspect took the Hwy. 567 off-ramp into Airdrie, eventually heading eastbound on Veterans Blvd. where he collided with another driver, who luckily escaped any injury. Turnbull says the suspect, a 35 year-old man from Saskatchewan, wasn't quite as fortunate.
