Today, the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce hosted this year's State of the City Address with the keynote speaker being Mayor Peter Brown. Mayor Brown addressed some of the highlights and what to look forward to in the future.

Taking a different route this year from last year's presentation, multiple City of Airdrie Councillors were presented in a video giving an update on some of Airdrie's major construction projects.

Some of those included:

Deputy Mayor Candice Kolson let everybody know attending the event, the new Multi-Use Facility is moving in the right direction.

"The Construction is scheduled to begin this summer, and this new facility will serve as a catalyst for development in our city center."

Councillor Al Jones talked about the 40th Avenue Project in a video, also stating the project will be done sometime in the fall and on budget.

Councilwomen Tina Petrow was excited to explain in the video how the Community Revitalization Levy (CRL) would help the downtown.

"CRL allows us to harness a provincial portion of tax revenues from assessment increases in the downtown area, right in the heart of Airdrie. These funds will be put to great use for critical initiatives that will shape the future of our community."

Councillor Heather Spearman talked about how arts and culture are an important part of Airdrie.

"We believe in the transformative power of art to inspire, connect and enrich lives through our work. Council has supported the recommendation of a new not-for-profit Arts Council Society. This art council would help advocate for arts and culture within the community, foster relationships and act as a connector for businesses, artists and residents."

Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown talked about the recent city council meeting and how they just approved Phase I of the new Southwest recreation centre.

"The pre-planning work and design are all going to be happening over the next year and a half, which is very exciting."

Mayor Brown talked about the rapid growth of Airdrie and how the city needs help from the provincial government with funding much-needed projects [such as schools] and is asking the MLAs and Airdronians to help advocate on the city's behalf.

"We need your help for them to recognize we are not a bedroom community with Calgary. We stand alone. We need help 100 per cent."

Brown finished off his presentation by calling AIrdrie the best possible place to be in Alberta.

"People love living here, people like investing here, and you're going to see a lot more of that.  This is the most exciting time in my time as mayor, I feel like we're going to the other level of excitement, investment, opportunities, and collaborations to be the best that can be."
