The Cochrane Rockies ringette season is well underway.

Girls in all divisions from U10 to U19 are strapping on their skates and hitting the ice for the love of the game.

Laurie-Ann Baker, President of Cochrane Ringette Association, said they are seeing a huge range of ages taking interest in ringette.

“You can play right from the ages of 4 and 5, right up to masters levels. We have two ladies teams in Cochrane, I think our oldest player is 57; so our youngest player is 4 and our oldest player is 57 so we have something for everyone in between.”

Typically fifty percent of girls drop out of organized athletics between the ages of 12 and 14 but Baker said the interest in ringette is on the rise in Cochrane.

“It has almost doubled in numbers in the last five years which for a sport especially a female sport that's pretty incredible and that speaks a lot to those who came before myself and really got ringette going in Cochrane”

All Rockies divisions are gearing up to host the Cochrane Classic Tournament, December 9 through 11th, at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sport Centre.
