Airdrie's new junior ladies lacrosse team took on their Calgary counterparts Friday, June 11th.

The Rockyview Silvertips fell 4-3 to the Calgary Axemen in a stunning overtime performance.

"Both teams played great! It's fantastic to see RVLA with a ladies junior team," said Natalie Flaman.

With the Axemen taking a 3-0 lead in the first period, the Silvertips chipped away at the defecit, tying the game with less than three minutes in the 3rd. A short handed goal for the win came about a minute into the overtime period.

This is the Silvertips ladies innagural season, and Friday's matchup brought together some farmiliar faces.

Axemen Goaltender Caley Strother-Steward spent time with the RVLA before heading to Calgary.

"It was weird for sure, I havent played against them or with them or anything in about three years," said Strother-Stewart. "It was pretty intimidating going on to the floor and just seeing them and remembering 'oh, their good shooters.'"

Strother-Stewart relocated to Calgary due to the lack of a junior ladies team in Rockyview.

"Within the last couple of years, lacrosse just took off, and I think thats why the girls got to get their own team this year in Airdrie, cause there's just so many more girls." she said.
