The Pittman family's pirate ship was a hit with the community this Halloween season in Airdrie.

Matthew and Jessika Pittman decided to build an entire pirate ship on their front lawn at 162 Windridge Road. They did not realize how quickly their decorations would grow into a Halloween spectacle. Over the month of October, the family noticed dozens of people stopping in front of their home every day to take photos and pose with the ship.

The ship, manned by skeleton pirates, became so popular that the Pittmans decided to ask people to drop off donations when visiting so they could help support the Airdrie Food Bank.

"We received $162.20 in cash donations and several bins full of non-perishable food items for the food bank" exclaimed Jessika excitedly. "We also had 770-800 kids come by tonight [Halloween]. It was insane by my house, we had people lined up all the way down the street."

If you're wondering how much food that is, it's over 400 pounds of food to be exact.

Airdrie's supportive spirit and strong sense of community was evident throughout the month of October and on Halloween night in Windsong.

Matthew, Jessika, and their daughters want to say thank you to the community and to everyone who helped contribute to the shelves of the Airdrie Food Bank.

...In case you were wondering, yes, they've got even bigger plans for next year.
