Just before 7 p.m., a thunderstorm warning that was previously issued for Airdrie and the surrounding areas ended. However, a thunderstorm watch continues to be in effect.

"Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail. Severe thunderstorms are expected early this evening. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road."

Earlier today, Environment and Climate Change Canada said that its meteorologists were tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts.

"This line of storms is located from Edmonton to Calgary and is moving 50 km/h to the east. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles," the warning previously stated.

Residents are urged to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

"Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"

The thunderstorm watch is in effect for Cochrane, Olds, and Sundre.
