This upcoming week will be busy for local seniors as it has been named 'Airdrie Seniors Week' (June 3-9) to celebrate all that they do for our community.

Jennifer Harbour, the chair of the Seniors Week Planning Committee explained seniors have been celebrated in Alberta since 1986.

"Seniors week is a wonderful opportunity to honour and recognize all that seniors have contributed to making our families, our communities and our province as strong as it is."

According to Harbour, they have only been doing these week-long events for seniors in Airdrie for a few years now.

Monday - June 3

On Monday, there will be vintage soda pop shops at four different complexes, including Abrio Place, Airdrie Care Community, Cedarwood Station and Luxstone Senior Living. Each shop opens up for business at 1:30 p.m. Each shop is free and will have its theme according to Harbour.

"At Cedarwood Station, we'll be serving floats, ice cream sundaes and things like that. We're gonna be wearing poodle skirts and making it feel like an old-time ice cream parlour. We will even have some local entertainment."

Harbour does ask that if you plan to attend give the number of which complex you plan on attending a call beforehand so they know you are coming.

Tuesday - June 4

Tuesday is the Volunteer Airdrie Seniors Lunch and Wellness Fair. The event will give seniors a chance to have a nice meal together while looking at different booths that could help make their lives easier. The event will take place at the Town & Country Centre.
