The 2018 season in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League kicks off in earnest tonight (April 27) with three local squads seeing their first action of the year and one other playing their fourth game of the year.

Only one club opens the season at home.  The Rockyview Junior Ladies Silvertips are in Airdrie's Plainsman Arena tonight taking on the Okotoks Raiders.  It's the two teams first meeting since the Raiders scored a 7 - 6 win over the Silvertips at Provincials to win the bronze medal.

The 'Tips will be donating the proceeds from their 50/50 draw at tonight's game to the Humboldt Broncos.

The Senior "C" Airdrie Mohawks travel to Calgary to open the season against the Irish.  Playing Coach Garth Barley expects a rough and tumble game.

"They're a little bit more physical than us.  They're a little bit younger than us.  They like to run.  Our guys can get physical too.  I think we have a little bit shorter fuse than they do, just being younger.   Same game as always.  It's going to be fast.  It's going to be rough, it's going to be tumble.  We're aware of that."

The game is scheduled for 9:00 pm in the Stu Peppard Arena.

The Tier One Junior "B" Silvertips are also in Calgary where they'll face the Chill at 7:30 pm at the Brentwood Arena.

The Tier Two Rockyview Rage is playing the fourth game of their first season in the RMLL and are still after their first win.

Tonight the Rage travel to Strathmore for an 8:00 pm encounter with the Venom.
