Rocky View County road crews will be installing snow fencing in the next few weeks to help diminish drifting of snow onto county roads.

Last year, around 1000 rolls of fencing were put up throughout the County. This year, about 1400 rolls will be installed as new areas of severe drifting were identified last winter.

Steve Hulsman, Maintenance Supervisor for RVC, says the fences are 1.2 metres high and are typically set back from the road about 25 metres for the best results.

Hulsman says they keep track of all drift locations so they know where to add fencing if needed. As well, the County already has their snow-blower contractors in place for what is shaping up to be a winter similar to last year. Call 403-520-6378, if you know of a location that needs snow fencing.
