Rocky View Schools (RVS) Kindergarten registration for the 2024/25 school year will open on January 22, 2024.

The 2020 Kindergarten eligibility requirements were modified in accordance with the Early Childhood Services Regulations and the new Education Act of Alberta. Students must become five years old by December 31 of the year they start kindergarten in order to meet the new uniform age of admission requirements.

This means children born between January 1 and December 31, 2019, can register for Kindergarten for the 2024/25 school year.

“We are very excited to welcome the newest cohort of students to our schools,” said Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach. “Kindergarten is an exciting milestone for both learners and their families, as it marks the starting point of an educational journey for many children that will see them through to their teenage years and set them up for success throughout their life.”

In most elementary schools in RVS, kindergarten is offered as a half-day program. On alternate days, certain schools offer a full-day Kindergarten program.

"In RVS, Kindergarten is offered as a half-day program in most elementary schools. Select schools have a full-day Kindergarten program on alternating days. Later in the spring, children will be placed in morning or afternoon programs based on circumstances outlined by parents and available space. Although registration will continue throughout the year, registering early helps families and schools plan for a successful transition and provides RVS with the necessary information to have teachers and resources in place," stated RVS.
