If your kid loves to roller skate, they may be interested in joining the Rocky View Junior Derby Association.

This will be the fourth season for the RVJDA and kids aged 6-17, boys and girls of all skill levels, are welcome to join.

Daniel Fortier, Board of Directors secretary for the RVJDA, said playing roller derby is more than just skating.

"All the things you would get from playing sports like team work, collaboration, endurance and all the skills but there's also community."

Roller derby is one of the only sports where players are allowed to choose their own names.

"Kids get to really create their own identities and it's about building character, confidence and self-esteem as much as building skills," said Fortier.

The popularity of junior derby is steadily growing, especially here in Airdrie.

"We have two different programs. We have our beginning program and then we have our level one and two competitive. In both programs, we had about 40 kids last year," he said.

Registration is now open and to register, visit the Rocky View Junior Derby Association website.
