The Grocery Link has rolled out three unique community focused programs in Airdrie.

On Friday, the Grocery Link unveiled the programs, targeting education of grocery economics and food waste reduction.

The Grocery Link said they're committed to educating youth and families about the economics of groceries and the relationship groceries and food waste have on the environment, including  the local and global economy.

A family contest has been created for families interested in enrolling in a 12 week program, the aim is to help each family save money, increase quality family time and reduce household food waste.

The goal is to provide a minimum Net Zero Cost Service and reduce household food waste by over 50%.

Grocery Link's Alberta School Food Waste Reduction Fair will be a spin on a traditional science fair and is challenging over 350 schools from Kindergarten to Grade 9 to create the best experiment or research project on the environment and/or food reduction.

The top 30 finalists and the top 3 finalist schools will all receive prizes.

The third program the Grocery Link unveiled is their sponsorship program - allowing community members to nominate friends, family or neighbors who struggle with the task of grocery shopping.

A donation of as little as $5.00 enables you to become a Grocery Link Sponsor and for every $76.00 in community sponsorship raised, one nominated person will receive free weekly grocery delivery service for a month. Then for every $1,000.00 raised, Paul Hutlet, Founder & President of The Grocery Link will personally donate $100.00 to the local Food Bank.
